Default Intake gaskets

Anyone know how long it will take to do the intake gaskets on a 5.4? Any tips when doing it?

Before you get into this, did you check and see if you have any loose bolts in the manifold? It doesn't cost much to check and it is worth a try to see if that will fixed your problem before you start taking apart the motor.

Rule One (1) in auto repair. If it is not broke, don't fix it because there is always the chance that you will break something else. That is not to say you cannot do maintenance early but the manifold gasket is engineered to last the life of the engine. So if it is fine now, don't risk changing it and potentially having a problem when you put it back together.

Well I got a p0171 and p0174 code. It only comes on when the temps are cooler. I've posted things on here and talked to many mechanics that come into my work about it and they say intake manifold is the reason I'm doing it. I'm changing the spark plugs at the same time.

Just did mine yesterday. The first round 18 inch pounds the second is 89 inch pounds. And it took about 4 and a half hours but I was picky and tedious about everything. Attached this photo so you didn't think I was talking bs.

You can verify a leak by taking it to a shop and having them diagnose it. I paid 50 bucks for a diagnostic and they hook your truck up to a scanner and look at fuel trims. It should be close to plus or minus 10-15 from 0. Positice meaning lean, negative meaning rich. I have two cylinders running at like 60 and 80ish so I have a leak there. I would do this before digging into the intake manifold.

They will spray starter fluid or something similar at the manifold by the cylinders out of range and the idle should become different and the bumbers should go back closer to 0. Have them show you what they find when you go. Hope this helps.
