Usually on a Carter/Edelbrock/AFB, that little hesitation is either because it is over carbed, or the accelerator pump. How many CFM is that carb?

Good news is, those carbs have an externally adjustable accelerator pump....

Soon... The wife and I are going on vacation or I would have put tires on it already. They are bald and cracking. It’s been hard not to do a burn out. I’ve been going easy on the tires so i can drive it around.

my 68 tbird had the exact same hesitation when i first got it, accelerator pump was trashed. my advise to you...before you go chasing it. I would put a new carb on it, IMO its a lot easier and less headaches

if you feather into the throttle how does it accelerate?

feathering in at stages it will rocket away. But even at cruising speed if i jump on it it will hesitates and I’ll have to back off the throttle and then everything starts firing right again.
