how to turn 97-03 tails into 09+
So I was bored and had some old tails laying around and thought how can I make them different which led me to come up with this idea ill tell you what I did and what I'll do next time to improve them
So first I sanded the lens with a fine sand paper then washed and dried it off
Then I masked off the whole lens make sure that you have little to no wrinkles unlike my pic here where I didn't take my time so I have a bunch
Now I would recommend tracing your light onto thick paper or something for a stencil so both lights will be the same I did not but will be next time but mark out where you want the sides of the 09 style to start
With a sharp cutting utensil slowly and carefully cut on the lines and pull off the waste
Next paint the uncovered part of the lens the color of your truck I did 2 coats
Let it dry completely I have a hard time with this

Once its dried mask off what you just painted
next this is where I would make a stencil draw out the shape of the 09 light cut it out and then trace it onto the lens however I did not this time I just eyeballed it which is ok since its not going on my truck
As before slowly and carefully cut on the lines and remove the waste I forgot to get a picture of this stage
Next spray the light with tint I would practice first cause im having a hell of a time with the stuff and I'm very familiar with spray paint
you can do a couple coats depending on how dark you want it once its dry and I put emphasis on how important this is because I didn't wait long enough and I messed it up so make sure its 100% dry then clear it if desired here's the pic of where I messed it up you can see the tint running

Or you could get a sheet metal nibbler and cut the panel to accept the real 09+ tail lamps.
Obviously more expensive because you would want someone with experience in working metal.
Ok so I have a set of lamps I wanna sell. LOL Can't blame me for trying, but it could be done.

Good initiative, Bad Result. Those look like crap. I hope to God, you're not keeping them on your truck.
