How to time 4.3 after engine been turned without chains
I removed heads from 97 f150 4.6 windsor. Turned crank to clean top of pistons. Now I don't know how to time it. Can it be retired after turning crank without chains. Thanks for any advice.

You set the keyway in the crank to 11 o'clock. It is much better if you buy the tool.... they run about 15 bucks on Amazon. Then the crank gear, cam gears, and chains are all marked. You put the single black links on the dot for the crank, then the double black links on the mark for the cams. These pics I have are for a 3V, but they are both timed the same.
Here's the tool:

Man.... I forgot, the 2V only has one black link on both ends.... sorry....
Here's a good video showing them.

Well.... it can. When you are turning it over without also turning the cams, you will have some PTV contact - which is something you want to avoid. But if it was turned by hand, you are probably fine.
