It's a pretty easy job. Just go for it.
Disconnect driveshaft, remove transfer case if you have one. Pull off the tranny lines, and electrical. Remove the shift linkage and disconnect that exhaust hanger. Remove the bolts holding it to your engine, and lower it out and down. It's pretty straight forward.

I've pulled the tranny out of a 2006 Lincoln Town Car before but wasn't sure if I needed any special tools or anything for the F150. Now when I get it out I'm contemplating rebuilding it myself, it will be my first transmission rebuild so I'm reading everything I find about the 4r100 but I've also got people telling me to not chance it and have a pro rebuild it. Can't afford to spend $1400 on a pro so wish me luck!

Yeah, it will definitely be a learning experience on the do's and don't's of transmission building! I'm kinda second guessing myself and leaning towards a junkyard transmission. I know it's a 50/50 chance of getting a good one but those odds are better than the odds of me finishing a transmission rebuild correctly, lol!
