It's real easy, - If the truck had Coil Packs originally, you stick with it since you don't have the drivers for a COP ignition system. If it had COP, you use a COP set up. Simple plug and play. It doesn't matter which model year engine. For instance, - in a 98 4six truck, you could swap in a 03/04 4.6L engine that had a COP system but you would most definitely want to use your trucks original Coil Pack (two) system. COP or Coil Pack, neither system has an advantage over the other. One uses plug wires, the other doesn't....that's it. Performance is the same.

If for some reason you want to try and switch to COP, which is ridiculously stupid (lol), have fun swapping PCM, harnesses and all that goes with. When all said and done, you'll need a bit of luck for it all to work without a doner. Absolutely no reason to even think about doing this, you don't need to, both ignitions handle these engines equally.

Yes, it doesn't matter if it's a COP engine or not. Means absolutely nothing, you can use it. It will swap right in and run with your 2 coil packs and plug wires. So yea, your good there.

In fact, any 2V 4six COP engine will bolt right up combining a few of the original components from your previous engine. You can use any 2 valve 4six, doesn't need to be a 97-03 10th generation engine. A much newer (final production date of the two valve 4.6L was 2014) 4.6L will work as well as long as it's a 2 valve. That makes it easy to find an engine with low miles. With the later engines (after 2003) you simply use your original coil pac system and intake set up. In essence, many engines out there for those in need that will swap right in.
