Question rear end noise??

I own a 2001 supercrew. The truck makes a Knock noise when I start out from a parked area and moving slowly. I do not here anything when I am drivin normal speeds. The first guy I took it to said the rear end may have something going bad (around $2400) I also took it to the dealer and he checked the wheel bearings and could not duplicate the sound. The owner's brother heard the sound while driving it slow. A friend of mine said the U-joints may be going bad, since you only hear it when you first start out but I dont feel any slack in the drive shaft. Any body got an idea??

I had a bad noise when I purchased my 97 F150, It would make the noise when I put it in reverse and backed up and when I put it in drive and first took off it would make it, you could also feel a sligh vibration. It ended up being my exhauset. The tailpipe had come loose and was jarring on take off and reverse. Once I got into gear and got on the highway the noise was not there. Cost me $30 to fix it. Just something for you to check out, dunno if that helps or not.

could it be the slip yoke on the rear driveshaft? this was a problem on the older fords. they need the special grease to keep them quiet.are your u-bolts tight?

It sounds like the noise is actually coming from the front not the rear. NOW WHAT??

Is this a 4X4 if so and the knocking is coming from the front you have a bad constant velocity joint in one of your half shafts. If this turns out to be the case do not change out the CVJ, instead change the whole half shaft the part at NAPA online is a few buck less the 70 dollars, The CVJ is about 50 bucks. with the half shaft you get two new CVJ's and new rubber boots.

Had The Same Problem With My 01 7700. Parking Brake Shoe Came Apart. I Have 135,000 Miles On Mine And I Had The Rear End Completely Rebuilt For $1261.00 With A 2 Yr Warranty. New Bearings, Seals, Gears, And A Complete Locker Kit All New. $2400 Pretty Steep. The Only Difference Was That I Removed And Replaced It. I'll Tell Ya It Doesn't Take That Long To Do. 1200 In Labor Would Be Pretty Bad.
