Default Horsepower

I have a 97 f150xl 4.2 5 speed regular cab 4x4
is there a kit to upgrade to a v8 or a way to get enough horsepower out of this 6 to make me feel better?

Take the tires and wheels off and put them on a newer truck with a V-8 or EB engine!
Seriously, there is little that can be done with a reasonable budget and/or a reasonable amt of time- there is no “bolt on” magical transformation-
Use the search function- this subject has been thrashed to the point it needs a sticky- really!!!
Should you find an inexpensive holy grail that can be done in a weekend, without a major teardown, i would like to see how it works!!

thank u I figured it might had been asked before new to the sight is there any frames I could drop my cab onto without any problems its paid for so I wanna keep it lol

Easiest thing to do is put one of these in the window and get what you want. You'll save a lot of money and labor.

Being a 4.2 the older 5.0 is possible. If you can do the work and find a truck engine at a good price.

even a 5.4 has a hard time getting out of its own way

You...seem to want a zippy little car. Not a truck that makes torque at low rpm.
