Stump your right on the right to choose. A Toyota? Come on man! I am on my first f150 and love it. My 03 has only had new brakes and two new coils on it.(78,000 miles) I had two Rangers before this and both had over 140000 on them with no problems at all. I will always own a Ford no matter what kind of problems may happen. If Ford ever makes a truck as ugly as the Toyota I would still buy it. I hope you watched the video and maybe the others that followed it. If you did thats great because thats the reason why I drive a Ford.

78,000 miles? I am used doing nothing unless it is something minor under warranty. My 01 has been absolutely the worst vehicle that I have ever owned. That is bad enough but Ford gave me nothing but excuses and lies and has not treated me the way I have been in the past. Trust me when I say that switching to Toyota did not come easy. I simply cannot afford to take a chance on another like this one. I would have probably bought another Sporttrac instead of the Tacoma but my 04 has had some issues and I was not in the gambling mood.

Lightbulb Helping Automakers with Paint Peeling Issues

Automotive painting is a science.

A typical finish consists of four layers:
1) electrocoat - provides corrosion protection
2) primer - protects electrocoat, stone chip resistance, adhesion
between basecoat and elctrocoat
3) basecoat - provides color to the vehicle
4) clearcoat - sunlight protection, scratch resistance, gloss
and appearance properties

Film thickness is a criteria used by the auto industry to ensure durability.

Each of the 4 layers must be at the proper film thickness specification.

If any of the individual layers is below specification. The vehicle would
be considered a factory paint defect.

A visible manifestation of low film thickness is paint peeling, body rusting and stone chipping.

Since the mid 1990s the auto industry while retaining ownership of the paint facilities have outsourced
the process and quality responsibilities to multiple paint suppliers.

Outsourcing in this application is defined as a process in which a company
assigns its in-house operations to a third party.

Specifics on automotive paint suppliers roles within the facilities may be found in textbooks published
both in Europe and America. The most recent textbook being released in 2008.

The paint suppliers actively market and advertise their outsourcing expertise with terms such as
"Cost Per Unit" or "Pay As Painted" supplier programs. Outsourcing [Cost Per Unit] programs are
common throughout Europe and America within the auto industry.

Not all vehicle flaws are associated with the paint itself, vehicle design and weathering will
impact the vehicle's finish.

It is our opinion that the automaker, auto dealer and consumer should not receive a vehicle painted
below the automaker's film thickness specifications of any of the four layers that comprise a vehicle's finish.

We have analyzed the film thickness data of over 11,000 vehicles and
have found that the measurements are below the automakers' specifications.

Low film thickness will cause paint failures.

Investigation summarized in press releases:
Billions Discovered for Recovery by Automakers
and
New Books Reveal Vehicle Paint Quality Flaws Associated with Outsourcing

A quick internet search for the following:

Toyota Paint Problems, Toyota Paint Peeling
Ford Paint Problems, Ford Paint Peeling
GM Paint Problems, GM Paint Peeling
Chrysler Paint Problems, Chrysler Paint Peeling
Honda Paint Problems, Honda Paint Peeling
Nissan Paint Problems, Nissan Paint Peeling

will return results back in the millions.

Public Interest best served by a "Truth in Finish Disclosure"
with the purchase of any vehicle.

The automakers trust their suppliers.

They should receive a finish painted to their specifications....

Had my 02 screw repainted 1 yr after i got her, paint was cracking they did not know why.. Upon further investigation there was 9 layers of black paint.. their reasoning was that it keeps going thru until its perfect but in the end all repainted at their cost not mine

Lightbulb Thic Paint Will Crack, Thin Paint Will Peel

In the plants, when there is a paint defect, a decision is made to either do a "Spot Repair" or send the entire unit through for another repaint. Quality Control (Supplier input) is suppose to prevent the unit from leaving the facility after it exceeds a certain thickness. Our research did find a certain percentage of vehicles that exceeded the maximum thickness. However, the overwhelming number of vehicles were released below the factory specifications.

my trucks paint is also peeling and caroading but hey i live in az and the 100+ days are hard on her. Honestly your never gonna get a perfect paint job on a vehicle unless u go get a 10k paint job from a private person. The answer why is that all dealers (ALL DEALERS) vehicles just go thru the assembly line and a machine painted. Machines are there just to cut cost like every other machine and without the human touch it will never hold up to the task
