Completely understandable, wasn't defending them or grilling you for not wanting to use them. Just throwing my experience out there with them. I'm sorry to hear that about your friend, I hope he got better.

wait...so I want oem xlt fender "moulding" for my white '01

do I need to add all those holes?!

or can I mount them to the mud guards and dremel off the rest

Stock moldings are actually held onto the bottom lip of the fender with screws. So, technically, no you wouldn't. But, you'd have to use double sided tape or something to get it tight against the fender. The little clips that go into the holes are to pull the molding up against the fender, so it doesn't rattle and isn't flimsy.

Amazon sells "OEM Style" flares that look very similar but are held on like your traditional aftermarket fender flare. You'd just have to paint the aftermarket flare to match.
