Default Help!!! Rear Window

Ok, I attempted to fix the back window leak these trucks have on mine yesterday, it's raining right now and I went to my truck and felt the seat and it's wet. The leak is coming from the top I just don't know where at the top. I used these two threads to try and fix the problem. http://m.f150online.com/forums/showt...860&styleid=15

My question is, could it be leaking from the plastic window trim that goes around the window, because that gasket that goes between the plastic trim, and can of the truck is shot, it's all cracked and some prices are missing. The plastic trim is the price outlined in red.

That piece is nothing more than decorative. Has nothing to do with why it would leak. Maybe check out the third brake light. I've seen some say it can leak from there. I personally took the whole window out myself and repalce the seal with butyl tape and no leak ever.

That piece has nothing to do with the leak, it is just trim for looks. I failed the first time I did mine an so I started again. I used the three m window weld in the tube, make sure you have a bead that is about 1/2" high. Clean both surfaces well, let the window weld tack up a little then put it in place and tighten the nuts in a criss cross pattern in steps not fully tightened in one shot. Do it in very warm(see hot) weather. You don't need to do anything with the trim piece, it's just for looks.

I thought it was just for looks but wasn't 100% sure, I also used the 3M window weld, that crap is hard to get out of the tube!! I'll check the third brake light and if that does not stop it, I will retry sealing the window

Try butyl tape from napa it comes in a roll very easy to use. It's abut 20 bucks plus tax. I've used it three times now hasn't leaked yet and easy to put on. And it holds wow does it hold. I replaced my solid back with slider and had to take the new seal off and it was a PITA. used pry bars and all to get the solid window out. Put the slider in with a new butyl tape seal and no leaks and been in major rain stroms. Only prob now is trying together rid of my old solid rear window and trim lol.

You did help a lot, I'm going to seal the third brake light and if it still leaks after that I will try that butyl tape. I bet O'riellys has some or Lowe's, or Menard's

Haha that's funny I did the same thing and also still have a solid tinted window to get rid of.
