Default Help

My truck is a 97, 5.4. The engine started running like crap, and my transmission started shifted hard with the overdrive light flashing, on my way home from work Tuesday when I was maybe a mile from the house.

I hooked up my cheepo scanner and got the codes P0302 and P1728, misfire on cylinder 2 and transmission slip. So I let it sit intill I had a day off. (So thankful we have backup vehicles)

I haven't drove it since Tuesday till I had time to change out the plugs and coils (which look like a total PITA). Today (Saturday) I finally had the day off so I took it store to buy the new plugs and coils, it drove like a champ on the way there, no check engine light. So I asked them to hook up their scanner while I was there, no codes at all. So I thought the problem was gone and went ahead and picked up new tire rods ends and UCA while I was there so the trip wouldn't be a waste.

Then again, on my way home, maybe 3 miles from the house the truck started doing its thing again, misfiring and shifting hard. Hooked up the scanner at the house and got the same exact codes as before. So I am assuming the truck is only having this problem when warmed up.

Is it possible that the coils and spark plug are only missing when warmed? Same with the transmission code? I really don't want to have to pay to get the transmission rebuilt right now. I just can't help but find it weird that both of the problems occur only when the truck warms up, simultaneously. Any thoughts?

Went outside planed on swapping #2 COP with one I know works to see if the code moved cylinders, I pulled #1 no problem. However when I pulled #2 there was gas all over the boot that connects to the spark plug? Is this normal? I have never owned a COP engine before.

there shouldn't be gas on the boots. makes sure the injectors aren't leaking fuel. if any kind of liquid gets in the spark plug hole it can cause a miss.
