Heater core/coolant flush
#1
Well it's getting cold down here in Houston, and well now my heater is not hearing as it should. All research I done says it's either the core or it needs a flush. I search the threads for a while but I can't find anything. Has anyone done this, have any tips if I were to do it myself. I got a quote from my mechanic($775 ouch) he says all that he has done the flush didn't repair the problem so it will probably need a replacement heater core. 2003 F-150 screw lariat

Its a pain but you have to pull the whole dash. It took me a solid day taking my time to get it right. Buy the peak radiator flush and give it a go first because the core sucks.

They quoted me $900 to replace mine. Being that I live in Phoenix, and considering the value of the truck, I think I'll just wear a coat and put de-icer in the washer fluid. Should be good enough for Phoenix.

No i haven't done that yet. I also ever personally done it and right now I'm short in cash to pay someone to do it. I seen videos but I also want to try an clean the core but I don't have all the tools to do it.

Another possibility is that your heater core has become partially clogged with sediment. If the flush doesn't work, you might want to try blowing it out with compressed air or water. You'll want to send the air/water reversed from the normal direction of flow of the coolant.
