I have the same year/engine mine clicks cause of an ehaust leak. On the pass side if i look behind my tire the 2 front manifold bolt heads are broke off. Im guessing from the diff metals and rust.

I have a 1999 Lariat, and it is making a clicking sound also, but it is only whenever I first crank it up. I took it to the shop to have them take a look, and they said the bolts are broke off right by the manifold and I would have to take it to a machine shop. It should be a bout 300 bucks or so!

Most likely a exhaust manifold gasket. They are a bitch to change trust me. I have seen many techs throw wrenches across the shop when doing them. The bolts almost always break off in the head. And the reason most people only hear it when they first start there trucks is because the metal is cold but when your motor gets hot the manifolds and heads expand and usually will seal up or quiet down!If your headgasket was blown your truck would most likely be losing either oil ,coolant or both and your truck would run like crap do to loss of compression.
