Got my truck, now what?

Alright guys I just bought my first F150! Its a great looking truck but its completely stock. I'm just wondering on what you guys would suggest I start doing first? Are there any recommended performance mods I should do? What about cosmetic mods ie: Bullbar, brush guard etc? It's got brand new Nitto Terra Grapplers so it doesn't need tires which would be my first mod. The only things I've done so far are a thorough cleaning and touching up all the deep scratches.

Here's a pic to let you know what I'm working with.

Those look more like terra grapplers

Lift it 4", Plastidip the badges. Off road lights. That would look sweet for starters. Nice truck, you'll love it.

BrowningSCrew 09-08-2013 01:04 AM

Level it, black or chrome lightning headlights, depending on your preference, 08+ Superduty tail lights. No bull bar, you'll kick yourself constantly for being without tow hooks

I'd say get a good exhaust! Flowmaster or Magnaflow. Maybe even a Borla. The best thing about these older model F-150's is mods ain't TOO terribly expensive. Obviously u can get into high dollar with those exhausts, but they have some relatively good sounding ones for descents prices. Single inlet, dual outlet with some nice chrome tips should really make it look good and sound even better. Might even make it a lil peppyer and breathe easier with less back pressure.

Offroad lights are definitely a good idea! And thanks I love it already!

Those lightning headlights look awesome I cant decide if I want black or chome either looks awesome! I didnt know the superduty tail lights would fit, and what about a brush guard does that take the space of tow hooks also? Thanks for all the info!

Definitely checking in on some exhaust shops around here. Around here we don't have noise ordinances so it can never be too loud ;)

Straight pipes, straight pipes, straight pipes!! Lol Tackle
But really if you don't have to worry about the po po or inspection, I would start with a muffler delete and Y it into duals. If you want to go louder later, cut the rear cats.

Depending which style you get it may

Ditch the nerf bars and the bug guard, paint the grill black, smoked tail lights and maybe black head lights. A stainless bull bar with some off road lights would also look good, the bar I have allows me to keep my tow hooks. I'd also tint the front windows to match the extended cab windows.

Im actually painting the grille tomorrow (And repainting the nerf bars) I cant get rid of em because my girlfriend is short and needs them to get in lol! Im thinking either lights behind the grille or mounted on a brush guard.

More power

Well the local exhaust shop is having a sale right now so I'm probably going to get my exhaust done this week. I'm thinking that I want to do a single catback straight with a dual tip out the passenger side. I've heard that the dual tips can mellow the sound a little and I personally like the look. Now I dont really know anything about back pressures and all that jazz but will this setup increase/decrease my power? Is there something else I should do that will give me better results?

I like the black lightning headlights on dark colored trucks. Also, for your offroad lights, mount them behind the grill. I always thought that looked best & coolest.

Did you get around to painting your grill?

The dual tip really won't do much to sound but these fords with a muffler delete sound nice and clean. I felt it gave my truck a little more pep. If it didn't have any lag at all I would know for sure but when it doesn't lag its awesome. And don't worry about back pressure. Unless your planning on doing open header straights or something you are totally fine lol

I was going to wait until my bed liner came in so I could work on it all in the same day so it'll either be tomorrow or Thursday :/

Going straight pipe you're gonna lose a little bit of bottom end and gain a tad more up top. Going with a performance muffler like borla or magnaflow uou will gains a little bit all around. But will not be very loud. I'm running a 14" si/so magnaflow and had it dumping behind the axle. I had to just dump it right off the muffler to be able to hear it in the cab. But it did give me a little gain. Probably just as much as straight pipe in the top end. And you should do the gotts mod and a good drop in filter in running an amsoil ea filter.

Is there any power difference between straight pipes to the rear and straight pipes dumped in front of the rear tires? I'm doing straights on mine and it's hard to find a place for them,I wanted duals with one in front of each rear tire like my old truck but that's not possible with our trucks. Also, when I do mine I'm getting all new pipes, not just adding on or taking off, what size would sound the best without losing anything?

If you do 2.5 either duals or single out in front of the rear tire, straights, you won't see the loss in low end.

Im wanting to smoke the corner head lights, should I just order some tint or would it be better to just buy new lights?

Black lightning headlights will get you that mean dark look you're after without killing the light output, it'll actually improve.

I intend on getting lightning headlights when I get the cash but I'm talking about just tinting the signal light.

Well I was just saying what'd be best lol to tint the corners use rustoleum's spray tint, Walmart has it. It'll give you a much smoother finish than NighShades does.

Alright thanks, I'm going to tint the tail lights a bit too! Also why are the chrome lights so much cheaper than the black ones? I've found the chrome lightning headlights for like 70 bucks but the black are like 170.
