Default Good buy or no?

Found an '01 Screw Lariat for sale in my area.
195k
Rocker rust is starting (inside on doors)
Has spray in bedliner, leather, 6 disc changer, and an ugly topper.
Priced at $6500 OBO.

What do you guys think? I was thinking of offering the lady $5000 for it.
Is 195k real high on the 5.4?
What about the cancerous rust? Pricey to fix in that area?

Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

That's a lot of miles.... Aren't the 5.4's known for blowing plugs? Personally I wouldn't buy a car that had that many miles. Especially for that price... To me, I don't think that's worth it. But maybe that's just me.

4x4?
Has it been taken care of?
All maintenance recorded?
Tire condition?
The list could go on and on. How bad is the rust. People here have replaced rocker panels and they have awesome write ups on how to do it. It comes down to is it what you want, can you afford it and do you have a back up ride while it is getting any repair done? Just food for thought. Of course I don't know anything.. or at least my four teenagers think that until I have to fix something for them.LOL

yes it's a 4x4, tires i'd say 60% tread left, i'm not sure about maintenance records. and the rust is only showing on the inside of the doors as of now, nothing rotting through to the outside

Can you look at it and say yes it has been well cared for.. Aftermarket rims, tires any of that?? If it is surface rust you may not stop it but you may pause the effects of it. It is high mileage and I don't know if I would look at one that high mileage but I bought one with 165k miles on it and it was taken care of, non smoker, Carfax, I know what the dealer did, what service was taken care of etc..I could recommend you buy it or disagree with it.. I bought mine and found another I wish I would have bought about a month later, with an exhaust already on but missing some of the things I got with mine... I am still stoked about mine and know it's been taken care of.. Interior is mint minus the fading on the upper door trim from the sun. I hope you get what you want because I am very happy with mine.. Right now.. Two months from now I may go...What the Funk was I thinking.. When you see it, drive it and if it feels like you and all things are aligned then buy it..For reference.. I bought an 03 4x4 screw with the 4.6, regret I didn't get the 5.4 but it was well taken care of, new tires, superclean interior, spray in bedliner, Tonneau cover, rain covers over windows, bug deflector.. etc.. It just fit me. Will I work on her yep, I can ride the motorcycle to work.So again up to you my friend.. Got pics that always helps these little threads here!!!.Again my kid would have bought it and then sold me on the points going for it and then say... Um dad we have to work on this and that and maybe this too but it shouldn't cost too much.....

Hell no. $5k for 195k miles. Nope.

Move on... Especially with rust showing, and if the suspension components haven't been replaced within like 20k, you'll want to replace all the front suspension. Trucks at the last leg of it's life.

5 grand for something that for all intents and purposes will be dead in 10k miles... Hell no, that's priced wayyy too high. You can get a '96 ext cab with a 4.9/other engine in pristine shape for 5000

Ok? But when did he buy it? How many miles? How do you know this person took care of this truck for the motor to last another 50k? 75k?

Ya, it's possible to hit 250k, but it depends on how well it was taken care of. That's why it's never really a good deal to buy a truck with such high mileage, UNLESS you know it's been taken care of and at a good price. 5k seems high for almost 200k.

^agreed.

That thing is worth $3500 with that many miles. If it had lower miles like 100k, then it'd be worth 5-6000.

I would move on.
