Default GEM Installation Question

I need to replace the GEM on my '97 2WD 4.6L.
Is there anything I need to know about that isn't obvious to an average Joe like me?
Does the GEM need any kind of programming, synchronizing, mapping, etc? Or is it a simple "plug and play" so to speak?

As long as you get the correct options for your truck its plug and play on 97s-98s. Do disconnect the battery before removing this.

when removing the plugs on the back of the GEM, they are held on with bolts. its not obvious because unless you already know that they are there, you cant see them.

good luck

I'm not the best guy to answer this but...Dealer quoted $253 for my 2WD, but said 4WD was significantly more, something like $450. I ended up ordering one trhough Autozone for $210 with a $30 core refund, but it's gonna take 10 days to get it.

Yes, by the dealer or someone who has a NGS scanner.

So if I install the GEM unit myself, would I be able to drive it to them or would they have to do all the work?
