Default fuel pump?

back with another problem....the other day i was driving my truck and i noticed that when i began to accelerate the truck would feel like it didnt want to go, then sometimes it would accelerate fine. i had to drive 75 miles to my apt for school and on the way i noticed that when i would press the gas the truck would accelerate to around 2000 rpms, then the tachometer would start to drop, then once i gave it more gas it would reluctantly start to rise again until it shifted. the problem has been off and off now for a week. ive replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the throttle body and MAF. ive read the other posts about trucks bogging down, and people suggesting that it might be the cats, but from what i can tell the exhaust flow seems unhindered. please help. info about the truck: 207,000 miles on the body with 50,000ish on the engine. 2003 with the 4.6. plugs and cops replaced about 10,000 miles ago, and im using a k and n air filter that was cleaned with the last oil change.

I would definitely get the fuel pressure checked.

I had this same issue. Turned out to be a $40.00 pressure regulator and not a $200.00 pump. Found that out by stupidly putting the pump in first.

That would definitely be awesome if that turned out to be the fix. I ran seafoam through the gas yesterday to clean my injectors....just hoping it would work...no luck though.

had a chance to check the fuel pressure and it was around 34 psi when it was running. where should i turn next? drove it about 100 miles today, still had the issue, took about 2-3 minutes to get up to 65 mph, still hasnt thrown a code.

Check the pressure regulator on the rail. Idle the engine, squeeze off the vacuum line to the regulator. If the engine rpms fluctuate then the regulator is working correctly. IF no change, bad regulator.

I'm of the guess the reg is working and at 34# at idle, won't be enough when you want more power. Check the regulator then go to the pump. It's one or the other if the fuel filter is okay and has been changed. Fuel filters can do this too. It's definitely fuel related by description.

What do you mean?

And I removed the hose and the rpms fluctuated. So i guess I should check the fuel pump?
