Is it better to change the fuel filter with minimum gas in the tank or it just doesn't matter?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to shut the fuel pump off?

generally speaking... I will disconnect the battery as a precaution, then change out the fuel filter. I was taught growing up that you needed to have an empty fuel tank to minimize leakage when changing it out...

That being said, as long as you're quick about it... I wouldn't think it'd matter one way or another.

Make sure you have the tool to remove it!

Full tank or not shouldn't matter as long as the truck is off the fuel pump won't be pushin no fuel the only leakage would be what's in the lines and filter. Disconnect one side at a time and let it drain into your little red gas tank.

Drain the pressure off with the schrader valve first or you will get wet.

You can drain the pressure or just take it apart as is. I've done both. Full or empty on the tank doesn't matter. When you put the new one back on turn the key to run and off three or four times to help purge the line of air. I typically pull one side off the old filter and then immediately hook it to the new filter, leaving the rubber plug on the other side of the new filter so gas doesn't run all over the place. You can put the other rubber plug on your old filter. Then when you get the other end off, just pop off the rubber plug from the new filter and install. Minimal gas leakage.
