Default Frozen spare tire winch?

My spare tire winch is locked up. My truck must have been missing a part because all the pieces to the crank and key were in the kit as described and as pictured in the manual. After making my own extension, the "key" wont grab anything to turn the winch. I cut the flange on the end of the cable that holds the tire to get it down. Sure enough the winch assembly was a rusted solid brick. Any suggestions now on how to rehang the tire? Replace the winch? Make a custom hanger? Anyone else have this problem?

I just cut mine down and was gonna check some junk yards but also I might drill a hole in the bed and with long bolt and I saved the metal plate "holder" at end of cable drill that out and use with bolt and lock washer nut just gonna have to have a small socket set in my truck and take little more time getting the spare but really how often do you need to get to it mine was really rusty.

When I bought mine there was no spare tire so when I bought one and tried to put it up under there the winch lowered but about halfway up something locked up and I couldn't get it any higher. At first I just used a short ratchet strap to hold it upright against the front of the bed. But now that I have a bed cover is been laying in the bed taking up a lot of space. I have a buddy who used threaded rod and a circular saw blade, as his washer under the wheel. I think I can find a much better washer but the method works.

I would try a local salvage yard. I'm sure you can pick one up there and just hope it works better than the other.

x2 on the salvage yard....most likely way easier than making one that might or might not work

I ended up cutting mine off, too. I just leave my spare in the bed for now. I live in Canada so finding one at a salvage yard in good condition is gonna be tough.

How do you keep the top nut from spinning with a tire covering it?

Sorry i dont have a mounted pic the factory steel cable is looped through the eye bolt and held with that cable clamp. Its took a lot a trial and error to get the right cable setting because theres only about 3" of adjustment with the threads of the eye bolt to get the spare snug so it wont swing
