Default Steering noise (help)

Ever since I got my truck 2 months ago it has had a noise when turning the wheel. Best I can describe it is a higher picth "shhh" noise. Turning in motion while driving, or parking. Can head it inside and out.

I took it in for a list of things, they said it needed a pitman and idler arm. I took it in to get both of those replaced, but they said it only needed the idler, and they didn't put in the pitman.

Any thoughts of the problem?

Thanks!

I have the same issue. Took it to 3 places and none of them could diagnose the problem, and neither could they tell me that anything detrimental was actually going WRONG with the truck. Reputable places that i trust, btw.

Its like a shhhzzz noise when i turn the wheel. Doesnt happen when moving. Only at dead stop.

How loud is the noise? I know when turn my wheels all the way it makes a noise similar to the one you described but its pretty faint and I assumed that just the power steering straining a little bit because I locked the wheels out.

Its faint, but noticeable if you're idling. I may just not be used to the sounds that trucks make yet. I've only had my F150 since July.

I think it may just be the sound these trucks make. My dads F250 always made it and I noticed it and it bothered me a bit. When I got my truck 6 months ago I noticed it too and it still bothers me a bit, but I think thats just the power steering on these trucks. Not 100% sure, but my truck tuns just fine, not loosing any PS fluid and the noise is pretty faint.

If it is faint then you can assume that it is harmless. I work at a ford dealership and have driven pretty much every type of ford pick up except the f650 (I WISH!) The brand new ones dont make that noise but the majority of the used ones make faint noises when the wheels are locked out. It just the sound of then working. I dont know if you have a high mileage truck, but you can always expect trucks with a decent amount of mileage to develop a few harmless noises over the years.

It's a 99 5.4 4x4 with 124k.

Here's a video of my truck, you can hear the steering making the noise everytime I turn the wheel.

I did hear a creaking noise but it sounded more like your suspension creaking. Either way it really doesnt sound that terrible. I doubt it is causing any problems. If it bothers you that much you could take in and have a tech check out your front suspension.

good looking truck by the way. I like that billet grille and that paint is looking real good especially for a 99. Does your hitch cover say what I think it says? haha
