Default No buyers for my truck? Critique my ad please

I’ve sold a dozen cars on Craigslist, price them at a price that I think will move and get it done usually within the week. The phone just has not been ringing for my truck.

—————

Original Owner 2000 Ford F-150 SuperCab 4 door XLT, 4.6 V8, Sport - $4400

2000 Ford F-150 XLT, Sport
SuperCab, 4 door
4.6 V8, Auto
AC, PS, PB, CC, tow package
Clean title
250,000 miles

We are the original owners of this babied and meticulously cared for 4 door truck. Engineer owner that has stayed on top of all the maintenance since the truck rolled off the showroom floor. This care and attention has paid off, as it has provided our family with a long tenure of reliable miles and I believe it is capable of another 250K miles if it is given the same care.

Within the last 6 months we had the front end suspension, rotors and brakes replaced ($1,200) and just paid the registration ($250), but our needs have changed. The truck passed the smog check with flying colors and I have the clean title pink slip in my hand.

My asking price is $4,400. You can buy a similar year F150 for a thousand less, but you will not find a better cared for, more reliable or better looking truck of this era. With the small 4.6 V8 I consistently get 17.5 mpg combined driving. No modifications have been made to the truck ever.

The car is clean, smogged, maintenance is up to date and the clean title is in my hand. This is my daily driver and can be yours too. The only thing this truck needs is a new owner that can appreciate the care it has been given. Please email, call or text.

—————

Have 6 good pics of the truck (don’t have them on the this device, but I’ll upload later). Of course it is the mileage that scares people off. Have a feeling I’ll need to go to $3,900 to get the phone to ring. Any issues with the ad?

This is the only part that I can see working against you...

"My asking price is $4,400. You can buy a similar year F150 for a thousand less, "

To be honest, I'm reading that almost like a challenge to go and find one cheaper and they might not even read much past that line.

The problem with that is, once they start looking, they find one cheaper that will do what they need instead of paying out your asking price instead.

Yes, it might not be quite as nice but its money in their back pocket and available for something else if they need it.

Agree with Adrian. Don't show all of your cards and tell them there are trucks for less. Let them make that deduction on their own, and come to you with that info.

I don't think you have a bad asking price, but if I pulled into a gas station that said gas was a buck cheaper down the road.... guess what I'm looking for? Your asking price is pretty comparable to what I see around here (although your miles are a tad higher).

An 18 yr old truck with 250k is at brink of needing new engine/tranny at any time. If they havent been replaced before.

Imo, for a 2 wd, your asking way too much. Vehicles this old are only worth what somebody is willing to pay.

So theres your answer.

Cut the price by $1500, and you may sell it in a week.

Get rid of the statement about you believing it'll make go another 250,000 miles. That's just plain ridiculous.

250k miles is a lot, if it is 2wd that is working against you, and the 4.6L isn't the most desirable engine. People who want power want the 5.4 and people who want MPG want the 4.2. I don't know what's going on market wise in your area, however in mine you can get a lot nicer truck (no offence) with a lot less miles for a lot less money. If you go through my build thread you can see what my truck was, it had 184k miles and I sold it for $5k. Your truck in my area to me is a $2,500 at best truck without seeing pics of it. KBB lists it at $2,841 - $3,105 in my area.

Too many words for the type that might buy it? No offense to any that have one. But that's a big-*** ad. Might boil it down to the basics and repost.

That's what I have to do with everything I sell lol. You can list everything about the vehicle and you will still get people asking about mileage, 2wd or 4x4, and pretty much everything you put in the ad.

I took your ad and made it smaller and maybe easier to get someone to call. See what you think.

Meticulously maintained and a steal at only $4400.

We are the original owners of this babied SuperCab with fully opening rear doors. Replaced the front end suspension, including rotors and brakes and just renewed the registration. Clean emission test and clear title.

For more information or to see this nice truck, Please email, call or text.

IMO, Keeping it simple and not a chapter will get more people to at least take a look.

Thanks for the inputs, I agree with most all the comments. The saying “it only takes one” worked in my favor. Sold truck today for $4,400.
