I'm finally back guys, lol. I've been busy with college and don't get to come on here much anymore. Anyway, my front end has gotten to where it squeaks and makes popping sounds something's when I'm turning the front wheels. I think it's the bushings wearing out on the control arms. My question is, should I replace the bushings, replace the upper and lower control arms, or would that even be the problem? Also if I have to replace either of those do they require a full shop or just tools most people would have? I don't have any presses or anything like that. Thanks for any help guys.

Oh yeah, I have a 2001 F150 4X4 SCab with the 5.4.

Replacing parts because you "think" they are the cause is a waste of money.

Pay a shop the $35-70 to diagnose the problem. Then come back and ask what to do.

A guy with a good set of tools can handle all suspension issues.

Thanks Tackle. Talked to the shop this morning when they were doing tires, they looked at it and said the ball joints need to be replaced. What are we looking at tool wise for that?

Check here: https://www.f150forum.com/f76/upper-...2003-a-111910/

Has everything you need to know.

Good thing you didn't just go ahead and replace the bushings!

The upper Ball Joints aren't replaceable you must replace the entire UCA. The lowers are replaceable! I'd suggest Moog Problem Solvers.

Chances are your swaybar end link bushings are shot too so that's something you want to look into also.

Well that sucks. Thanks for the info. Looks like I may be biting off more than I can chew with what time I have right now. Looks like I may be dishing out some dough to get it fixed.

Not sure what a shop would charge, but doing the uppers yourself would save some cash. They take 30 minutes a side. Real easy. 3 nuts and 2 bolts.

The lowers take longer if you don't have the time.

So I don't need any presses or anything special to take the lowers off Tackle? Just a regular ole tool set?

You will need a press for the lower balljoints or you can rent a ball joint press tool for basically any parts store.

The UCAs are 2 bolts and a nut.
