Default gas pedal becomes irresponsive

Hi, I have a 1997 f-150, tranny.

I had to unplug the air filter from the engine cause it was too dirty, and it had a cable plugged too.

Now when its in the 3rd position, the gas pedal just becomes irresponsive at 2000rpm (sometimes at 1500) and only works again when its at 1500rpm (or at 1000rpm).

In the 4th position, it becomes irresponsive at 1500rpm.

Any ideas?

ps.: sorry for my bad english

Hi, thanks.

No, i did not mount/plug the air filter back on, not until I get it clean.

How do you call this?

That's what I meant with 3rd and 4th position.

I'll take a picture of the cable/sensor I unplugged and post it here.

"gear"

Probably your MAF is all stopped up or your IAT or IAC.

Hi,

This is what I disconnected:

This is a picture i found online.

I had to leave the air filter unmounted because otherwise it would struggle every time the truck started moving, so red lights were a killer.

Thats not a MAF, thats a IAT. Take your MAF out of your intake tube, clean it with MAF cleaner, then get a new filter. NEVER drive a vehical with out a filter.

Thanks, I'm sure it wasnt the gratest idea to drive it without the filter, but it was an emergency.

It is parked now until I get the filter back.

I will see if i can find the MAF cleaner here (Nicaragua), is there any other thing it can be cleaned with?
