Harmonic balancer question
Hey guys, long time reader first time poster. I have a 2000 F150XL 4.2 V6 that the harmonic balancer bolt came loose and long story short I figured out the problem. However I cannot seem to find anything on the internet about whether the hub on the balancer is supposed to be flush with the crankshaft snout. I have tightened the bolt down to almost 130 ft-lbs and am afraid to turn any more. I do not want to strip threads or break bolts off in the crank. I have about a 1/16th of an inch to be flush with the snout. So my question is should it be flush with the snout or is that where it sits? And yes, I used a spacer on the bolt to help push the balancer on. Any input is appreciated! Thanks

If the belt alignment is good you should be fine.

My 200 Workshop manual says 111 ft-lbs is the number. You've over-torqued.
I just went and looked at mine and you can't even see the snout with both washers installed under the nut. You must be removing it to see if it's flush. If the damper hub gets to flush, you lose clamping force. You'll be tightening the nut and washer on to the snout, but not transmitting force to the damper hub. So, "flush" is actually bad. It's too far. 1/16" seems about right.
Did you put some sealant on the keyway?

Thanks to all who replied. I had a difficult time logging in to reply. BareBonesXL you are absolutely correct about the torque spec. I have replaced the bolt with a new one, reseated the pulley and correctly torqued. JCR 56: Yes the belts are aligned perfectly. This is the answer I was looking for. Thanks guys. I have another question i will post in a new thread concerning this motor soon
