Default Am I Safe?

The "crossmembers" that go across from one side of the truck to the other that appear to have been welded to the rocker panels. What are those, and how important are they to the structural integrity of the truck? I think I've seen them called a "body channel"? The ends where they connect to the rocker panel are completely rusted off on a couple of these and I'm wondering if the truck is totally compromised. The frame rails are totally fine and the giant bolts and bushings are all there doing their thing.. just the ends of the body channel that curve downwards and were welded to the body are non existent. Can I get elbows fabricated to straighten this out or is my whole **** ****ed?

Seriously sorry for no pics. Truck is immaculate except for this discovery that's keeping me up at night.

Not seeing any pics, its hard to tell, but if your describing what i believe your describing, then, its not catastrophic- yes, a competant metal shop could brake up a set to weld or otherwise fasten in.
im surprised your rocker panels are not rusted- although my rockers have been replaced, the angular gussets underneath are quite cancerous, but i dont see or notice anything detrimental to the structure. As you said, the rest of the mounts/structure is fine,
my plan is to brake up a set and replace them in the future- but im not loosing any sleep over it now.

Yea pics would be great...sounds like your referring to the step bar drop or mount. If that's the case, nothing critical.

Yep!- mine too- not a great thing to have, but it can be repaired. Not real critical, and have little impact on the safety/drivability of your truck- you have time to explore your repair options and repair them
( although, i dont think i would let a horse use your running boards to get in the cab&#128540

Damn guys. Are all your trucks that bad down there? Holy crap. I would really be worried about a side impact accident. The side would fold in like an accordion. I remember the old days when we had a lot of rust., but to me, even this is way too much to handle. Now I know why so many are asking about rocker repairs and stuff. That is just ridiculous. I saw an truck come off JBER (military joint base) in a 09 Dodge 1500 the other day, with Wisconsin plates, and both rear wheel wells were rotted out like the 70's Chev's and Ford's did. I guess their galvanized metal is just so much talk. I'll never consider a Dodge after seeing that, not that I would buy a Dog in the first place, but still. Crap to the highest level.

My F150 is bad in some areas... the usual areas. But the frame on mine looks pretty good. My Expy though.... that frame is pretty ugly. Both of them need a core support. I'd bet most of these Gen 10 trucks need core supports - unless they are CA, FL, or AZ trucks....

There are a couple 2nd and 3rd gen Dodge Dakotas I see around town that have lots of bed rot on the wheel wells. Makes me feel a lot better about my truck, LOL.

looks like I'm pretty lucky. I noticed a new small rust spot on my 99 and there are a couple of other small ones. Gonna grind them off when it warms up..
