98 column shifter issue.
alright, so a while back i picked this this 1998 f150 for 800 bucks.
at the time, the shifter was rock solid, but now there is TONS of play in it
I havent dove into the column yet, im just trying to get an idea of whats ahead of me before i do.
Does anyone have any idea whats causing it?
I used the search before, and diffident find anything that helped.
thx charles

prone to working themselves out, idk if this is my problem or not, but my truck

shifter issue
I just chaned my whole colum on a 97 150,,remove lower panel under colum and you will see the 2 nuts that hold up the steering colum, and there are 2 more dirictly behind them further down the colum, maybe those are loose,,the shifter its self is conected to colum with just a slip pin that drops in,simular to a door pin but much smaller. Check where the lever from the colum attaches to the lever that actually leads to tranny, make sure it is connected properly with no slop in it.If you reach your hand down on righthand side of colum while sitting in truck ,,just under the bottom panel there is a small, smaller than a dime wheel that you can turn to adjust the shift needle, Thats where you can make sure the needle is right on the gear your in,I had to adjust that after the replacement of the whole colum, hope this helps,,
