F250 Light Duty 4x4 5.4
5 Attachment(s)
Long story short, I got this for my Birthday from my dad today.
He received it in a trade and didn't really have any use for it. Originally all I was told was it was a 98 light duty single cab 4x4 that needed some work (4x4 has issues, interior is beat up etc) I didn't mind all that, it's gonna be a play truck not a daily. My biggest hope was that it had the 5.4, I grew up loving that motor because a lot of my friends had them in their Fords when we use to haul horses. and to my delight, That's what motor it has. Even though it's going to just be a play truck, I still want to fix it up. Heres a few exterior shots I got today |
The Issues

So now lets get into the issues...
The interior is pretty much shot. The dash is cracked, everything was covered in awful camo stick on...fabric things. When removing them they left gunky fuzzy glue and the ones on the door ripped the liner completely off. It also looks like the piece on the bottom of the door panels was removed as well when adding the camo. Also they removed the dome light to put up the camo headliner... I found it under the seat though maybe it's salvageable . |

I'm hoping I can find a replacement piece for the cracked pieces of the dash, And clean up/paint the rest of it.
I'm not sure how to fix the door panels just yet. I also need to get new clips to stick it back to the door this is just the start of the camo removal |

The exterior issues other than the camo,
I need to remove the motorcycle hoist/winch (I don't own one, don't need it) Replace tailgate there was a weird stick on scoop on the hood I removed so I have to clean up the gunk from that. Remove camo stickers. Window tint needs scraped and replaced. Has some weird holes in doors under the window and running up the pillar (exterior) not sure what those were for unless they had larger tow mirrors on it before but they don't bother me really. and.... the mirrors don't match.... they don't even line up lol |
So I have a lot of work ahead of me, But it runs and has good tires and pretty decent power.
Any input on the interior pieces or.. anything at all is greatly appreciated. This is my first F150 (F250) and like I said it will be a play truck but it's just got too much potential to leave it in this crappy condition. my plans so far are: remove front bully bar (not a fan) remove motorcycle hoist paint chrome bumper replace or paint chrome grille housing replace mirrors with ones that match fix dash pieces remove exterior camo decals tint tailgate paint rear bumper figure out why passenger door speaker isn't working figure out a makeshift console or try to find bucket seats out of expedition get 4x4 fixed (think it's a pressure issue, was told theres vice grips on a hose under neath that will engage the 4x4???) also the shifter cable is loose, Seems to be a frequent Ford thing because my Sport Trac has the same problem. Found a thread about how to fix it though. clean, clean, clean. |
Hey, you can't beat the price, and it looks like a decent platform. Yes, you have your hands full, but one bite at a time.
When you go to strip the window film, DO NOT SCRAPE IT. buy, borrow, rent and clothes steamer. Start at the top, steam the stuff, and peel it off. Done right it'll come off in one sheet and leave little to no glue behind. Andy |
