Default F250 headlights

I have a 1997 F250 light duty with a 5.4l, I'm having some electrical problems i think. first my high beam indicator light is always on and the head lights them self are to dim. this failed me in my MD inspection among other things. has anyone had this problem? there is also a ticking sound when i give it gas that never goes away more gas I give more ticking there is, any ideas?

The tick could be carbon build up somewhere, or the famous exhaust leaks on these motors. Usually one of the exhaust manifolds blows out. Your multifunction switch sounds like it has gone bad for your high beams.

Thanks for the reply.

I just took off the manifolds this past weekend and they don’t seem to be warped or anything but who ever put them on last used liquid gasket maker instead of real ones so I fixed that but have yet to run it to see if any change. I’m waiting on the rain to stop hear so I can put the rest of the exhaust up.

I also thought it might be the multifunction switch; I have tried three different new ones with no change. Not sure where to go from here.
