97 and up have PATS.

If you want to try and cut a blank regular key, and try it you will find that the theft light will come on and it will not start. You will get lights on the dash, but the starter will NOT engage.

I have a remote start system on my truck, and the PATS is disabled. I can start mine without a key but have to have the key in it to drive it away or put it in gear. Without the key it dies.

Not all 98's had the passive anti-theft, but all 2000+ had it standard.

To see if you have it there are a few things you can do.
1) Take the key to a locksmith. They stick it in their magic box and it tells you if it has an RFID chip in it or not.
2) Have a spare all-metal key made. Start the car. If it works, you don't have the PATS. Though accessories will still work.
3) Put your key in the ignition, and turn it to on, then back off. If the "Theft" light in the dash blinks for 2-3 seconds, you have it.

With that said:
What are you trying to do?

Well my truck got broken into and they shoved a flat head into the ignition but I guess they didn't do it correctly and just left the flat head stuck and ran off
So I replaced the cylinder and key it was like 25 I think and now I'm installing a remote start

Oh they took my 12 pack of dr. Pepper them bastards

If you have the big fat key then there's a chip in it. The small keys do not, my grandpas 97 does not have pats and a cheap cut key from the hardware store works perfect on his.

youll need a bypass module. Xpresskit makes good bypass systems. youll need a PKALL if i remember correctly. the bypass hooks up to the connector under the ignition barrel and into the remote start. they cost about $40.

thats IF you have the PAT system. i thought everything above 96 had it.
