Default Extending Fender Liners Like Ford Should Have

I've been talking about this for awhile now in various places on the forum, and am finally taking a closer look at DOING something about it! (And yes, I know I can buy a set, but from what I've been told, they're pretty flimsy, don't fit that well, and besides, this will be free and fun right???)

By cannibalizing (and modifying) the fender liners from my '99, I intend to bring the font of the '03's fender liners down to keep mud, dirt, rocks, etc. out of the area under the headlights, and behind the bumper and fogs.

Below are a couple of test-fit pics with the left fender liner just flipped around and placed in the right-side well. It looks like it's not going to take much to make a set that will fit like they were factory-supplied.

I'm going to do something about this liner-to-frame gap, too.

STAY TUNED!

A bit of a non-update: I'm having trouble locally sourcing some 1/16"-3/32" sheet rubber material that will close off the frame-to-liner gaps. If anyone has a recommendation for an online source (or maybe a local type I've not thought of), I'd appreciate the info.

Thanks.

Or just find a correct set of OEM fender / bumper fender wells. They snap it.

I have the stock fender well liners in there. There's an aftermarket set of add-ons that mount in front of them and protect the back side of the fender, fog light, etc., but from what I've read, they're pretty flimsy. Would they be better than trying to fab with these spare liners I have? I don't know. As for the gaps from the existing liners to the frame, I don't know of anything available, stock or aftermarket, that's made for this. Do you have any links, by chance? Thanks.

I haven't seen any along the shoulder lately, but even so, I'm thinking they may be too thick, and might not be big enough. There are no truck stops nearby (both are an hour+ from my house), but if I happen to be in the area of one or the other, maybe I'll take a look-see.

If you find the right material, let me know. The closest I can think of roof underlayment. But it is not even thick enough or stiff enough.

When I was younger, we used to use tractor inner tubes to fill in the inner wells
