I used one from an 05+. The picture below is the older 98-02.

That's the years I was looking at initially but decided I didn't like the look of the holes or higher profile side supports.

The one I installed is growing on me, I think the reason I didn't initially like it was that I was looking at it from an elevated view. I'm sure the first time I have to put something up there I'll be glad I did it.

Trimming the rails.

I'm using Krylon Semi-gloss black to recondition the black color. I'm not cure if I'll use a UV protectant clear right now. I may disassemble it at a latter date and do it then.

I took off the rear plastic trim piece, then counted 5 mounting holes to the rear and made the cut.

Used a file to clean up the edges and then sprayed to cover the bare metal.

never responded on here so not sure what im doing rn. But how did you cut the rails? And do i need the riveting tool to take them out of an old explorer
