Default exhaust manifold replacement, i have a few questions

Im getting ready to do both manifolds, both have a bolt broken off, and the truck sounds just horrible. Ive put this off for a few years now, but its almost unbarable now. My main questions is, what exactly do i need to have out on the bench when i start. Also, im trying to plan for the worse so any good advise or special tools or procedures that may help me get thru this.

thanks, dustin

Just did it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well the exhaust company did it, i looked at it and know it was going to be bad.
its 13 years old and never bin touched. I saw that 2 of my studs were broken and the rest was rusted out, on both sides. It took about 12 hours. need cut tourch grinder, cut off wheels, drill bits and tap set.
Turns out that 2 studs on driver side had to be drilled and taped and 4 studs on the pass. side the same. the starter the y pipe and the polusion tube had to be removed and reinstalled.
to big of a job to do on the floor of a garage in my opion...........best of luck !!!!!!!!

I had a set of stock manifolds crack and fall apart, Being a truck which spent its whole life in Michigan everything was badly rusted. I used a pneumatic cut-off wheel to take off all of the nuts/studs flush to the manifold (as to leave something there to grab on to with pliers to remove the rest of the studs). Half of the stud peckers broke off near flush in the head so I welded nuts to them and they came right out. It is not something I look forward to doing again.

Wouldn't it be easier to have the dealer do it? I was quoted just under $700 for my manifold, including about 3 hours of labor.

Did they at least give you some lube and a stick to bite down on ?

the dealer around here has got enough money off of me to put his kids thru college, i have a good shop to work in, torches, mig welder, and any tool i should need. i kno its not going to be fun, all i was needing to know if anything else was needed. all of my top bolts look pretty good on both sides, the bottoms not so good. My dealer quoted me 1600 for both sides. before i pay that ill let it leak.. i was also wondering if it would be better just to go on and cut off the nuts that look like theyll break.
thanks, for the replies

That's exactly why I cut all of them off to begin with - I didn't want to have to drill out flush broken studs. The studs that were not moving with pliers I welded the nuts on, I believe the heat helped free them up. It sounds like you have all the tools necessary to get the job done. Are you going back to stock manifolds or headers ?
