Every time I look at a new truck, I like mine better

I tracked my MPGs on my 2002 Lariat SuperCrew from Jan05-Nov15 (when I sold it) and I put a hair under 100K on it. And when I put a Hard (folding) cover on it (I believe in Summer 07) improved the mileage 1-3MPGs.

City, 12-13MPG
Hwy, 15-18MPG and RARELY did it reach 18.

And I'm not a lead foot. Matter-fact, Ii don't recall going faster than 75MPH in it. Passing folks on the HWY notwithstanding. I'm that idiot on the Hwy going around 60-65MPH usually.

That is one of the big differences in the newer Fords, much better MPGs but I admit it hardly makes up for the huuuuugggge price difference

I know I have a 20 gallon tank. I nearly ran empty one day and barely hit the gas station. It took just over 21 gallons-and that was with gas starting to overflow at the cap. And it was a 1/4 tank by the gauge. I have no idea how to pull a fuel log for my truck. Like I said, it's a 2000, and as far as I know, it's bone stock. But, I see your point for the 1/4 tank by the gauge or an actual log. My calculations have normally shown 18+ mpg on the highway when I don't drive with a lead foot. If there's a strong head wind, it's around 15. I know I make mistakes, I'll admit that. But making a mistake every single time? Not likely. My calculations are usually accurate. I may be off a bit, but I know I pull mileage on par with my dad's '14 RAM, and I can get 19-21 mpg out of it. And yeah, it may sound odd that I get better mileage with premium fuel, but I don't run ethanol through my engine. That's why I buy premium. Everyone who has driven this truck before me claims this, too. I don't know anything about how the engine is tuned. All I know is that it's been rebuilt, and I've replaced the spark plugs, alternator, and air filter on it since then.
Now then, all that said, I'd like to know what that "sig" thingy is you talked about. Is it part of the vehicle's ecu?

I know my truck isn't old, but I have a 2011 F150 Lariat with 52,500 miles on it. I am very **** about my truck and make sure its clean inside and out all the time. I plan on keeping the truck until it cost more to fix it then its worth, so i'm guessing at least another 10 years!

My sig is my signature.
This is the link to an online app that I track my mileage with.

If you have a 21 gallon tank then it was replaced with an aftermarket unit, and the fuel gauge will be worthless.
It is a 24.5 or 25 gallon tank otherwise.
"Nearly running empty" also means nothing. You are going by an inaccurate gauge. Was your low fuel light on? If not, you still had plenty of gas.

If you want to prove to me your mileage claim, the for the next 10 fuel ups, write down your mileage and then how much gas you use (filled up full each time).
Until then, your numbers are pure speculation.

There's a lot of interesting points. I own a 17 I just felt like dropping my impressions of it here..

Mine is a 17 XL Screw 3.5L NA. <--- This is the best part.

I have rubber floors because this truck works. I have AC but only because it came from factory with it. I have the basic AMFM radio. Bottom of the range. I don't even have power windows, locks, mirrors. The only options I got were the 3.73 locking rear end and a spray in bed liner. I don't have 4x4.

What's my point? Ok, this truck cost me $28,900CDN (23,496USD). I understand that I want to keep this girl for 10 years, then as long as possible afterword's. Its still possible to get a new truck under 30k, but you have to evacuate what you need vs what you want.

For example, you can up level my truck all the way to the lariat trim- but its gonna cost you a lot of money initially and lets face it, more Gucci toys men that its gonna fail eventually and end up costing ya to replace further down the road.

But more loaded trucks give better resale value wahh wahh wa- I see that all the time. Its my truck and I'm not reselling it so I really don't care about the fact that a sunroof would net me a better trade in. For me, less expense down the road the better!

I think that's also a big problem. All you guys have your older trucks and are keeping them going just fine. Awesome. I figure your saving money and getting the most out of your investment right there. You are winning the game.

Today's society seems to be all about being on the cutting edge. New iPhone, toss the old one, get a new one. New f150? Oooh gotta have it and all its tech gizmos. I NEED all around cameras and the 8"screen. How many f150's did you see on the lot only a year or two old recently? Shameful isn't it? Same with problems. If its got tires, its gonna fail eventually. Oh I need a new transmission, screw it. Ill just bury myself in debt and buy a new one! (Boneheads)

Meanwhile Ill be here in ten years with my cheapo-xl that can tow with the best of them laughing...

Very true, but around here, it is near to impossible to find a basic truck.
Needs to be special ordered, and even then takes a while to get.

Another problem is that some want a few nice things (power windows and locks, remote locks) but with the way packages are now days, many times it is all or nothing. Want power windows, you have to get XXX package that has a bunch of stuff you may not want (but still have to pay for).
A lot of it is keeping up with the Jones' though.

Many argue that most trucks are not used as trucks, they are a status symbol. I have to admit, 90% of what I use my truck for I was also able to do in my wife's mini van (loaded lumber, dirt, bricks, lawn mower, etc). Not as convenient as being able to throw it in a truck bed, but it still did it.

But I am a man, I need a truck! And if I get a truck, it needs to be the Ultra Mega Super Edition.

Though I round my mileage to the nearest 5, this is what I use for my Lariat. I have a similar one for my 300S:

Ok, all good points that I really hadn't considered. Remember a time when you would tour the dealership and it was hard to find a loaded, luxury truck? Now it is indeed hard to find a basic model. I wonder if that's a supply and demand thing, or if its the dealers way of trying to sneak you into a more fancy truck.

Im also a known cheapskate.. So if I got a truck, It needs to be the most capable for the lowest cost point. I like your guys trucks.

My '98 STX 4.6 would have still been running today if the Ontario salt gods didn't claim its frame. That was a damn good truck.

Even with my 2017, I'm happier now with my current truck then looking at the 2018's.. I know there isn't a lot of difference.
