Default Engine rebuild suggestions?

Trying to get the most out of my cash.
I have a '92 f-150 4x4. Same 302 with 190K miles. Runs great. But just not enough motor to comfortably pull my 27' camper. I'm either going to rebuild it and go 331 stroker or look for a 5.4 to shoehorn in. It all depends on how much fabrication will be needed to fit a 5.4 in it and the difference in cost. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going the cheapest route but more the less headache route. Trying to keep this with my hands on it for the most part with out having the machine shops do most of the work. Any ideas on the best budget build parts that would go into this soon to be project would be great.

You are in the wrong section.... I think.

By a 5.4, are you talking about putting a modular 5.4 in it? You call it a stroker, then say you may need fabrication. So your post is confusing as to if you are inquiring about a SBF or a modular.

Why don't you build a 5.8 instead? Much cheaper, and less hassle getting everything to fit.

Sorry, I meant turn the original motor to a 331 stroker or find a modular 5.4 from another truck or van.
I've thought of a 5.8, but aside from bell housing, motor mounts, exhaust, is there anything else that I might run into.
Weight is another issue but shouldn't be hard to work around

It would be easier putting in the 351 since it is the same engine family as the 302. The 5.4 is a completely different platform.

Thought I posted this earlier, guess not, but better to stay with the 302 family and avoid the costly
conversion to another engine size. Certainly would believe cam, lifters, and heads would deliver quite
a nice upgrade:

If you get a 5.8 out of a 94 thru 96 F150 (F4TE casting) then it will be a roller block. Any of the roller HO cams for the Fox Body's will slide right in. I got a set of aluminum heads, used, for mine for about 500 dollars. Any of the 302 heads will work.... IF you get them drilled for 1/2" head bolts. Probably the biggest obstacle for going with a 351 is the intake. If you are seriously interested in going 351, let me know and I'll see what options I can find. I went with a Lightning style lower, and will be using an Explorer upper.... but there are cheaper alternatives.
