Default Engine rebuild

I am wanting to start do a rebuild on my truck since it has 230,xxx miles and is right now in the shop getting the transmission rebuilt. The plan is to get a junkyard 5.4 and rebuild that one then swap it in when the rebuild is done so that I won't be out a vehicle for long.

My question is my truck is a 97, so there is no pats system or anything, so I assume the wiring is different. That being said, am I limited to only 97-98 engines?

I have a 97 with the pats system. Maybe the wiring isn't too different, but I do know that ford was changing wiring with certain things. Maybe one of the more information filled members on here can help more than me.

you can use any 2v 5.4 regardless of year. I reccomend getting a 99+ as it has PI heads. But if you are not using headers you will have to mod the y-pipe flanges to get the factory y-pipe to fit. You will also have to use the factory throttle body elbow. You will need to add the one of the extra coolant temp sensor to the water neck.

You can get virtually any newer gen 5.4 and swap your relative parts over (electronics, heads, intake man). A good machine shop should be able to do the heads in a day (valve grind, valve seals, and new springs), if you have it scheduled prior to take out.

Or save for a Jasper replacement.

Just had one installed in my 2000. The annoying ticking that the stock 5.4 made isn't there.
