Electrical Problem
I have a 1997 F-150 XLT with a 5.4L that I am trying to fix up. Last weekend, I bought a replacement steering wheel from a junk yard and a new clockspring from the dealer. (The airbag light was flashing, and the horn & cruise was inop). After installing the new clockspring and steering wheel, I reconnected the battery to see if everything was working. The strange thing is that the right turn signal was flashing and the door chime was sounding. This is all with the switch off and the key out of the ignition. The door chime will stop when I close the doors, but the turn signal continues flashing. I ended up having to remove the flasher to prevent my battery from going dead. I tried disconnecting the new clockspring from the airbag, but it did not correct the problem. One more bit of history, is that when I removed the old clockspring, it was only a housing and no internal parts. I don't know of the previous owner knew there was an electrical problem. One more thing...The horn is super sensitive. I can barely touch the airbag and the horn blows. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
