I'm stumped.... Not sure what Brew and I said "we figured out". I pulled my fan out of a Ford Taurus, which was obviously developed by automotive engineers. I wasn't taking credit for anything they have done.

If you have a the factory Alt in the 98 and it's a 130amp, it's really not. Stop by just about any 3rd party shop and load test it. They actually run up to 165amp. The factory original anyway. Still using mine...they don't build them like that anymore. I've never had a Alt last me this long. The owner of RJM and Ford Fuel Injection were I use to get all my Ford elec stuff informed me they these alt in 9th gens, carried over to the gen 10 but only made it in the 97/98. The 99's and up came with the same alt, rated 130amp, but from 99 that was indeed the MAX output. Check it out if you still have yours... it'll LT to 165amp.
AFAIK, mine has the original alternator. It says Motorcraft on the case, and I for sure haven't changed it. Good info on the 165A output.

Jbrew,
I just looked into electric fan conversion only 1 week. I am pretty sure e-fan enthusiasts already know what I know. I still have the original 90A alternator. Good to know it is underrated. I will keep it. 135A rated alternators are larger in casing. Maybe just the casing.

Wolvee,
I found Painless Performance controller. http://www.painlessperformance.com/webcat/30140. Is this what you have? It accepts both Speed and AC ON inputs. This is exactly what I have been looking for. It IS expensive. I will wait a while. I hope price comes down a little.

Thank you all for the advice.

I don't know that he meant the 90 amp was underrated. Is it Brew? Or just the 130 amp?

Yes, that is the kit I have. It's been great so far. The only issue I had was I hooked up the A/C directly to the pump and it cycled the fans on and off with the fans.

You need to make sure you wire them to the HVAC-A/C switch instead. The directions won't tell you that and the only youtube videos, has them installed on a GM where that's acceptable.

I've been thinking about this also. I've found a mark viii fan and am thinking about this control kit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LINCOLN-MARK...RXC7a4&vxp=mtr
It would put me in this mod at $225. Is it worth it?

^^^ That is only a one temp switch. Do you plan to only use high speed with the A/C on? The reason I like using the BMW switches is, they are a dual temp all-in-one unit, and the Volvo relay packs will activate both fans.

I like my Flex a lite setup. Soft start and variable speed based of temp. The 6000cfm is more than enough to keep my high compression crammed 2v cool with A/C on max and my 6.0 diesel Trans cooler. Sitting in 5 o'clock rush hour it never gets warmer than 198-204

Carcrazygts,
What is the setup? A link or a few more key words for search would be appreciated.

White,
I know about the Volvo relay. It controls a fan with 2 speeds. How do you run 2 fans with this?
