Default Edge Evolution CS...

hey guys, i am looking into buying the Edge Evolution CS for my 2003 FX4. I dont want it for more power, i want it for better MPGs. I have done much research and read many reviews on this progammer and some guys say that they havent noticed any difference on their MPGs and other guys say that they have seen up to a 4 MPG increase. I know that in the end it all comes down to the way you drive. any information about this programmer would be greatly appreciated! thanks!!

If you have any mods such as cai exhaust etc you will want to check into getting a custom tune I would suggest a gryphon

A canned Edge device isn't programmed towards mileage, simply better power gains. The fuel trims have much room for improvement and this is where custom tuning is best plus it accounts for mods. PHP is now converting Edge Evo's to Gryphon's again. So you can either find a used Edge Evolution and convert it, or buy the CS and get custom tunes for it. No changes are needed to make a CS accept custom tunes. The older Evos do have a cable issue so getting custom tunes for the CS would be the best/safest option.

thanks for all the great info guys! but buying a programmer then getting it custom tuned sounds like alot of work. 2 questions...1)how do you get a programmer custum tuned? and 2) is there any programmer/chip out there you can buy that helps with MPG's and not need custum tunes? Now, i realize that i drive a truck and the milage isnt going to be the best lol but im just lookin for ways to get a few extra MPG's

Buying a tuner and getting custom tunes isnt alot of work, more time. When you buy a cs from PHP, you can get custom tunes for $30. I just got a CS and have only run about 3 tanks through it so far and havent noticed any gain in mpg's, but I do also have LFS (lead foot syndrome). I have noticed a quicker throttle response and more torque from it. So once I'm used to it and tone it down a bit I'm sure I'll get more mpg's. I'm awaiting a custom tune as well.

awesome man! this might be a stupid question but what is the difference between the Edge Evolution cs and the Gryphon cs?. I see that the Gryphon cs looks like the exact same thing as the Edge cs. another stupid question...is Gryphon just a different opperating system for the Edge cs programmer? which custom tune would you guys recomend for a 4.6L 2003 FX4 with CAI and single in dual out exhaust? ........sorry for all the questions lol

A gryphon is the end result of changing the operating system of the game boy style edge evolutions , since bill from php wrote the canned tunes for the cs he is able to use the fusion updating software to install your custom tunes on the cs. Just tell him what tunes you want tow performance etc

A lot of the people that report big gas mileage gains (4-5 mpg) are going off of the average mpg readout on the programmer.

If you calculate your mileage manually, you will find the programmer's numbers are very generous.
1-2 gains a believable number. But you could also gain that simply by adjusting your driving habits.

If you are buying the Edge for performance gains, then that is another story.
