Default Easy wideband question and a few other ?

So I've gotten my gauge cluster and gauges all wired up. 1 Step closer to getting blown

Now i just need to wire up the wideband controller (AEM 30-2310 Inline Wideband UEGO Controller). Instructions say to wire it up to the battery??? Wouldn't this drain the battery as the controller would constantly be on? What alternatives do i have here for a power source?

Also i bought the autometer 15004 steering column pod http://www.amazon.com/Auto-Meter-15010-GaugeWorks-Steering/dp/B000CMF8XA/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_1" but it doesn't fit my vehicle! Apparently it only fits 97-01. Can i retrofit a lower steering column cover onto my 02? Also how the F do i remove the ignition cylinder!?

I'm unfamiliar with the aem but if it says to wire it Direct, I'd imagine it's because it keeps a memory and your baseline O2 to measure against it's live data it's reading. If it says to do it, do it.That controller has been around a while and I'm sure if it had issues, you'd have heard about it.

The drain would be very minimal and not the issue I'd worry about. If you run tons of other 12v devices that's already putting a strain on your system, you should think about getting a second battery.
