thanks for all the tips! Finally can say I found it from spraying cleaner around the engine like mentioned!! I just kept searching and searching this website on other ppl post with the same problem, and I accidently sprayed the cleaner and I heard a change in the idle so I went farther and farther into investigation and one of the lines be hide the battery had a hole in it!

But the hose has like metal fittings in it, the hose is coming from the vacuum reservoir so I don't know what the hose is called, or is it just a regular hose? also can I get this from the local parts store or do I have to order it from the stealership...

thanks again and hopefully someone else can use this to help them figure this dreaded code out

I just had this code on mine a couple weeks ago. My mechanic said that 90% of the time when this code comes up on a 97-03 f150, it is just a vacuum leak. I replaced two old hoses and mine is fine now.

Repaired some small hoses and lines behide the battery box and still no fix.. I am goi. To take it and have a smoke test done on it, hopefully it works...

1 question someone mentioned intake gaskets, if they were bad would I have both 171 and 174 codes? And also would I be using antifreeze?

Yes mine threw 171 and 174, and yes you'll leak a little coolant. Codes have not come back and it's been about a month since I changed them
