Question Dorman intake Upgrade?

Hi fellas, just replaced the OEM plastic manifold on my 01 5.4 this weekend at 228,000 miles! It finally cracked at the coolant port and leaked into my #1 plug well killing my coil. Anyway, I took some side by side comparison pics of the two intakes and the Dorman is definitely different than the OEM ford. It has slightly different runner lengths, totally different lower plenum and the top where the throttle body bolts on doesn't have the divider whatsoever... Is this better or worse than the ford piece? It has to make a difference in some areas of the operating range of the truck I would think!

Anyone else ever notice this?

Sorry if this has been discussed in the past, I'm not on here much!

I hope one of the guys that has changed there intakes will see this. It isn't for a non-pi motor was it? That's only thing I can imagine being the reason for different runner length.

I believe if you go on amazon and look at the dorman intake manifolds for the truck, and down at the description, it says "upgraded design". never thought much of till you brought these points up. hmm

No this was for a PI motor (mines an 01)

I didn't really notice any difference in how the truck runs, I mean it has 230k on her so she isnt a spring chicken anymore but still runs really well and tows a two horse trailer regularly!

Yea I seen that when I bought it but I assumed they were referring to the "upgrade" as the coolant passage cross-over fix.

No proof, but I feel my truck has a bit more pep (take that for whatever you want) after I changed the intake to the Dorman one.

Its is the same used on the 2002-2003 5.4 powered F150's. Not really a upgrade.

So the 02-03 motors got a different intake than the 00-01? I didn't know that. The only real "upgrade" then is the coolant cross over? I really don't feel a difference in my truck at all. Of course it runs smoother since I put new plugs in it and replaced the bad COP.
