Hey Guys,

I have a 97 F-150 4.2L truck, and the problem I'm having with it right now is that the door chime that comes on when you open your door and leave the keys in the ignition won't turn off when I take the keys out. I'm pretty sure some of y'all guys have come across this problem before, so I'm just trying to figure out what exactly has to be replaced?

Have you tried jiggling the ignition? Sometimes the electrical contact sticks in the back... it did on mine.

HMMMM, do the lights go out??? I did see a post where you can remove the bottom cover off of the steering column and cut the green wire going to the key, that is suppose to stop the chime. Might be able to find it with some searching.

Yes, jiggling the ignition does make it go away, but it comes back fairly easily.

The lights did not go out, but I'll see if there was a previous post stating that I could make the chime go away by just cutting a wire. I wouldn't mine the chime never coming on at all.

I'd imagine your contact switch is bad. Not terribly expensive nor is it difficult to replace... that I can remember.

If the lights did not go out it might be the door switch, I think it is part of the black thingy-ma-jig that keeps the door from opening too far.
