Vacuum actuated 4x4

Vacuum actuated 4x4
My front drive shaft was frozen in place, making it damn impossible to get it out, and in fact, I believe I bent it while trying to get it out. I figured it was no big deal since it doesn't spin unless 4x4 is engaged, and since I only use 4x4 when I'm off-roading, I figured it could sit there till I got a new one. I took the truck out for a drive and felt a vibration coming from underneath the truck. I turned and brought it back home and found that the front axle was engaged, but the transfer case wasn't. I pulled the vacuum lines off the actuator and felt vacuum coming from only one of the two lines, so I put vacuum to the opposite end of the actuator and it disengaged, so I know the actuator is good. I followed the lines and found a break in one of them, so I patched it and now both lines have vacuum in 2wd and 4wd, leaving it engaged in both.
I didn't have time to follow it any further, so I just switched the vacuum lines so it stays off. Does anyone have a diagram of the vacuum system for this? How is it supposed to work - as in, do they both have vacuum and one gets shut off when 4x4 is on, or does the vacuum jump from line to line when you (dis)engage 4x4?
Thanks in advance,
James
