Dealership/Edge Programmer Situation
Sorry but this is long. Took my 2000 F150 Lariat to the Ford dealer (60 miles away) Wednesday for "The Works" service. Forgot and left my Edge plugged in. After an hour and 15 minutes the CSR came to me and said they couldn't start the truck and there was an error code on the programmer. She took me to the truck and what I found was 4 people standing around the truck and all they could say was we didn't do anything it just won't start and it's the programmers fault. The tech's laptop and cable was setting in my seat but it was unplugged. Got it out of the truck and tried to start it and the NEW battery started clicking. Bat was nearly dead! They put it on the charger and I unplugged and replugged the programmer 3 times and kept getting the message cannot communicate with pcm. The pcm had been wiped clean. The tech kept blaming it on the programmer and I needed to have them reprogram it! I had them push the truck outside and the CSR loaned me a car so we could go home (60 mi). Called Edge and they set me up a new stock program and downloaded it that evening. Went back yesterday morning and within 5 minutes had the truck loaded and running. A BIG THANKS TO EDGE! After I left the first time the CSR and shop mgr did a little investigating and found out it was there fault. The guy doing the service flooded the truck and kept trying to start it then the tech plugged in his laptop (which he initially denied) and tried to mess with the pcm which at that point screwed everything up. The CSR actually handled the situation very well, apologized for the problem, and give me a brand new loaner (which she didin't really have to do). My lesson learned is that next time I take it in for service I'll unplug the programmer. Edge and Ford handled the situation well but that particular technician will never touch one of my vehicles again. Hope this saves someone else my headache in the future. My situation was compounded by the fact that we lived an hour away from the dealership here in the mountains of Colorado.
I try my best to avoid dealerships but when I do have to go to one, I always set my truck back to the stock setting. At least they treated you right, especially since it was the dealerships fault.
I am glad that you got it taken care of. It's instances like these that just concrete the fact with me that setting my truck back to stock will happen(as long as I can remember to do so) before I take my truck into any dealership. The majority of the time it seems to me anyway, that when it comes to these programmers and dealerships, they dont' have a clue about them and can really screw things up in short order and then are first to blame something you have done to the truck VS. what they have done screwing around with it. Just my opinion with a scenario I had with a local dealership and a programer.
My beef was with the tech that lied to me in the beginning, said he didn't do anything, and wanted charge me to reprogram my pcm. Everyone else was helpful. Yes I'll put it back to stock and pull it out before it goes back.
