Default Odometer Display Going Out (?)

My 2000 ODO display has been intermittent. The brightness level varies and sometimes is blank for a while after I re-start the Truck.
Anyone know the cause or a fix?

It's a common issue the solders are bad on the circuit board on the odometer same with the overhead console/compass/Temp readout. look it up on youtube or in the how to section there is a few threads about this. All you have to do is redo the solders and that's the fix.

How time consuming is this? I assume you need to get behind the dash?

I have never done it. So might not be the best person to tell you. But I have had the dash in pieces a couple times. Pretty sure you just pop off a couple pieces and then a few bolts and It comes out

Do some searching on this site, and you tube, etc. The dash does not have to come out, but the cluster does. Then you take it apart, clean it while you're at it, and solder up the right locations. I found 3 cracked solder locations. And if you find the right sight, it will show the exact solder location to fix the problem. Total time invested is about 3 hours if you've never done it before.

Careful with the "PRNDL" removal and install - it slides up and down.
