coolant mixing with oil
 

I need help with my 97 f150 with the romeo 4.6 . I'm losing coolant into the oil. the other day it started running funny loss of power and barely would idle. found a milk shake in oil. drained oil and had about 3 gallons of fluid/oil and coolant. I assumed it was head gaskets. I tore the motor down and had the heads rebuilt and tested. machine shop said that they passed the pressure test. I just finished putting it back together started it up and ran for 15 minutes. sounded great all was good. I drained the oil and it filled a 3 gallon pan. not good. I noticed that the coolant was low so I added about half a gallon and it came right out the oil drain plug. I'm completely confused where else could the coolant be mixing with the oil? my next guess would be where the lower radiator hose connects to the casting that is on the front of the block on of drivers side. this casting also has the remote oil filter hoses attached to it. has anyone heard of this same issue? anything helps.

replacing freeze plugs
 

I started getting coolant in my oil. I thought it was head gaskets so tore the heads of and changed the gaskets and had the same problem. I then did some more research and looked at the freeze plugs behind the timeing chain cover. they looked good but if I presureized the coolant system it leaked on the edge of the plug. I popped the plug out and it looked good. it must be leaking from the edge of the plug and the block. my question is should I use some sealant on the new plug so this doesn't happen again. I seen some posts online about using Loctite thread locker if so what color. anyone with experience with this I would like to here your comments.

I would go with rtv instead of loctite. That's a relatively common practice.
As far as the coolant in the oil, the oil filter adapter sounds like a viable candidate. I'm not familiar with your engine, so I could be wrong. The gasket may have failed though, and since it's a low point of the coolant system, everything is draining out as you pour it in.

i have the same problem with my expidtion 4.6 windsor i read some of these post and saw that it maybe the freez plugs spoke o my macanic and he said no way its impossbile i need help to figure it out could it really be the plugs or just a blown head

We had this problem on crown vic police cruisers and it ended up being the in radiator oil cooler cracking and allowing oil and coolant to mix. It was on 97 and 98 models I think.

It always think head gasket in this situation because of my luck but there are some other viable suggestions on here. Let us know what you find.
