97 ford f150 speedometer and odometer not working
So. I hit a washed out road from flooding and bent the rear end. Had a spare parts truck took rear end off of there tried to drive high revs than shift i guess limp mode? I put a code reader on and said no signal from front tires and rear diff speed sensors. I dont even have speed sensors up front. I replaced rear diff one brand new i replaced the one on the tranny by transfer case with one off part truck still nothing. I need this truck as its a work truck. Any help thanks in advance.

Rango....I don't think so. 97 up all have electric sensors and wiring from the transmission. The cable for the odometer went away at the end of the Gen 9's.
The OP didn't say which transmission he had, so it make it tough to tell him where to look next. The 4R70W has a rear axle speed sensor, where the E40D (97-98, 99 up 4R100) has the sensor on the transmission for speed. His description lead me to the E40D, since he had the transmission sensor.
Something tells me he may have the 4R70w and that is where the shifting problem lies. Since that trans uses the rear axle for the speed sensor, that is the most likely place to start. The OP did change the rear axle, and now it won't shift......
Time for more information. 14 bolt (4R70W) or 20 bolt (E40D or 4R100) transmission pan?

Rango, where on this cluster (97-98) would the cable attach? This is the back of that cluster and there is no place to attach a speedo cable. You must be thinking of an earlier year.

Well it didnt shift when i limped it home after i hit the wash out. And theres a speed sensor on the rear axle but looked online and was one by transfer case. And it shifts. High revs a good ways than shifts pretty hard

That brings us back to the model transmission you have then. If it is the 4R70W then it will be a possible broken spring, or bad shift solenoids or internal solenoid wiring (chaffing).
If you have the 4R70W, then you will only have the black sensor on the top of the pumpkin. If its the E40D, then you still have the axle sensor, but also the one at the tail of the transmission where it bolts to the transfer case. The 4R70W has NO tail shaft sensor, only the one on the rear diff in your 1997.

Tim....you can also read the tag on the door post and it will have a code under the "tr" (right next to the "SPR" listing) the lower right side of the tag. "U" is 4R70W and "E" is the E40D/4R100.
