Complete Identification codes.
Complete VIN and Doortag Codes.
Thought this worth posting. I had seen it on another site, but it was not complete... I had not found it on this forum. Mod, if this is already on this site, please feel free to delete.
Identification Codes
The vehicle identification number (VIN) is a 17-digit combination of letters and numbers. The VIN is stamped on a metal tab riveted on the instrument panel, top upper left of the dash. The VIN number is also found on the vehicle certification (VC) label.
Item Description 1 World manufacturer identifier 2 Brake type and gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) 3 Vehicle line, series, body type 4 Engine type 5 Check digit 6 Model year 7 Assembly plant 8 Production sequence number
Vehicle Identification Number
The first three vehicle identification number (VIN) positions are the world manufacturer identifier.
The fourth VIN position is the vehicle brake type and GVW code (all vehicles use hydraulic brakes).
Positions 5 through 7 indicate vehicle line, series and body type.
The eighth VIN position is the engine displacement and number of cylinders.
The ninth VIN position is a check digit.
The tenth VIN position is the model year code.
The eleventh VIN position is the assembly plant code.
The last six VIN positions are an alphanumeric code for the vehicle build sequence. This is also the vehicle serial and warranty number.

Trying to decipher my vin#
I am not currently anywhere near my truck....I bought it out of state and all I have is the title application and new plates. I'm wondering if the lady at the deputy registrar's office copied the VIN number correctly as not much seems to add up. Here's the VIN on my title appl. 1FTRF7W8YNBxxxxx There is no assembly plant that is coded with a "B". There is no engine on your list that is an "8"....I can't see how she could have mixed up the 7th and 8th digits and also the 10th and 11th...? I suppose anything is possible.

VIN code deciphering
I never thought of copying the old North Dakota title...it could have been wrong on that, and she copied down what she had. I've never seen an issued title that was that far off....??

I need help finding out how to get a replacement VIN Certification Label (data plate), for my 2003 King. The original was scraped off well before I bought the truck so all I have is the VIN.
