[QUOTE=ibd2328;3619858]Yeap, all you need is a wooden stick gear shifter with an 8 ball, a straw hat, and a tobacco pipe. Simple as that ..

Those, and a 1949 Ford F1 pickup platform to install it on...

Great job, Ibd.... When my '98 Scab 2wd grows up, it wants to be just like YOURS!

I wanted to do this upgrade but I want to test it to make sure I won't get disappointed. What's the Estimated Cost?

Is there a huge difference in towing and Accelerating performance? 4R70W is designed for a V6 Overhead Valve Engine. It also looks small for a V8 SOHC Engine that requires a bigger Torque Converter.

Do you think it's a good upgrade or is it just a waste if time and money?

The small tranny in the pic 4R70W?

The 4R70 came in 88-90% of all F150's with the 5.4L (97-03). Yes it is the smaller one and is an amazing 4 speed transmission.

Unless you are seeing 400-450 (or more) to the wheels, wasting money. IF you take care of the 4R70 it will be good to ya. Just changing filters and fluids.

Default Help please!

Hello My names Jim I have done all of the above except I am having issues with the pcm and I do have the pcm out of the donor vehicle which was a 1998 lincoln navigator 4x4. I have a 2001 f150 4x4 both 5.4L. I am wondering if you can help me add the computer as a piggyback to my f150. all I am missing is step "#9--Stand Alone Transmission Controller or a PCM from the vehcile you got the tranny from"

Get a custom tune or a flash from the dealer. I know the navi had alot of other options, so hopefully that doesnt interfere.

IBD, So it seems you just re-used the same transfer case? Do you know if the super duty uses a stronger one? It seems like it would be the weak point. I would have gone the 4r100 route but it was cheaper and more convenient to just pop on a built 4r70w.

Curious to see what the weak point in the drive train would be on your rig. I'm not sure how much power a stock t case can handle.
